What is it?

Overview


  1. An extended Justice education/formation program that provides an opportunity for parishioners to:


    • a. Study and be formed by the Justice Tradition articulated by:

      • 1.The Scriptures

      • 2.The Church's historical witness

      • 3.Catholic Social Teaching


  2. JustFaith is a conversion-based process that seeks to integrate personal spirituality and social ministry.


  3. The aim of JustFaith is to:


    • a. Empower participants to develop a passion and thirst for justice

    • b. Express this passion in concrete acts of Parish Social Ministry


  4. JustFaith is a tool that has been an effective strategy for parishioners to become agents for Social Transformation through:


    • a. Training

    • b. Forming

The program


  1. Six to nine months (nine is recommended)


  2. Weekly meetings


  3. Employs:


    • a. Books
    • b. Videos
    • c. Discussion
    • d. Prayer
    • e. Retreats
    • f. Hands-on training


  4. It is a tapestry of learning opportunities that emphasize and enliven the justice tradition of the church


  5. It is a substantive and demanding course of study


  6. It builds community with the other participants


  7. A sharing experience that speaks to a Faith Journey of compassion that is life-giving and challenging


  8. Engaging in the Church's social mission is one of the most challenging messages of our Gospel tradition


    • a. The JustFaith process recognizes the complexity of the call to compassion
    • b. It provides a wide-range of compelling resources to communicate this tradition


  9. The difficult call to bring justice to a broken world deserves a preparation that honors that complexity


  10. The program is adaptable to parish interests and staffing


  11. The Syllabus allows for changes in:


    • a. Study topics
    • b. Program duration
    • c. Accommodate differences in parish staffing: availability: facilitation skills


Getting Started


  1. Begin with an introductory workshop to:


    • a. Describe the program
    • b. Recruit participants
    • c. Train potential facilitators


  2. All day from 9:00-4:00


  3. Time is flexible


  4. Weekdays and weekends available


  5. The Workshop covers:


    • a. Theological tradition on which the program is based
    • b. Stories of JustFaith impact
    • c. Logistics on how to get started and run the program


  6. Cost $500 for a single parish or $350 per parish if two or more - plus travel expenses


Support Services


  1. Printed materials to outline the curriculum and facilitation options


  2. Materials are now available, and continue to be developed and updated


  3. Internet access for:


    • a. Curricula
    • b. Networking with other parishes
    • c. Locating alternative resources


  4. Full-time phone assistance to answer questions and assist with issues that arise while preparing for or offering the program.

  1. JustFaith is part of the Parish Ministry Section of Catholic Charities USA


  2. JustFaith parishes are automatically members of Catholic Charities USA and the Parish Social Ministry section. This provides:


    • a. Access to the JustFaith web site
    • b. Other benefits, not connected to JustFaith, from the Parish Social Ministry including:
      • 1. Quarterly newsletter
      • 2. Access to a wide variety of training opportunities and technical assistance
