A History Of The Mass And Its Ceremonies In The Eastern And Western Church -Rev John O'Brien A.M.

One of the most impressive ceremonies of the entire rite of holy baptism is witnessed at that place where the priest puts into the hand of the newly-baptized a lighted candle, with the following solemn admonition: “Receive this burning light, and preserve your baptism blamelessly; keep the commandments of God, in order that when the Lord shall come to the marriage-feast you may run to meet him with all the saints in his celestial palace, and may have life everlasting and live for ever and ever. Amen.”
