St. Rita
Feast Day May 22
St. Rita was born in Roca Porena Italy in 1386. She wanted to become a nun since childhood. But through an arranged marriage by her parents, became a faithful wife to an abusive and violent husband.
After 18 years of marriage, her husband died from wounds inflicted by one of his enemies. Her two sons also soon died. She then entered the Augustinian Community at Cascia. Her religious life was marked by mortifications and great devotion to the Passion of Our Lord Jesus. Through this later devotion she was struck by a thorn from the Crown of Thorns of Christ and received a wound which never healed. Following her death in 1456, many miracles were attributed to her. She is the patron of impossible cases.
Prayer: Almighty God and Father, by the merits and example of the life of perfection of St. Rita, may we come to an ever closer relationship with your Divine Son, Jesus. Amen
