|I Ran Over Jesus! -by R.K.|
For a few years I had been sort of mulling over the “idea” of going to church. I had thought about God and my life and had read my Bible, but I had not really done anything about it. I knew that I wanted to do something but I wasn’t sure what. I had no direction in my life, and was pretty much just going day to day without any true faith. Until I bought a new set of tires.
I had my shiny new tires for about a week when I found myself on the side of the road with a flat. My truck was sitting lopsided and my shiny new tires were not looking quite so nice to me anymore. So I called a tow truck and they came and changed over my spare for me, and I followed them back to the garage. They took my flat away to see if it was able to be saved and I sat down to wait. A few minutes later, a young man came out of the garage and came up to me just shaking his head. He told me that he had seen some strange things stuck in tires before, but this was a first for him. He held out his hand and I took from him a small, pewter figurine of Jesus. Jesus had been stuck in my tire!
I had to start laughing. How could I not? I had been “thinking about” and “considering” the idea of going to church, but I had not done anything about it. Well, evidently I was taking too long to make my move. For me, this was definitely God telling me that I was headed in the wrong direction and that I needed to stop. Literally, it turns out. Jesus stopped me from continuing in the direction that I was going and led me instead to Him. I still have that bent little figure. I have it superglued to the dash of my truck. Now, Jesus always leads me, in my life and faith, and in my truck!
